Nazaré: Beyond the surf
A diverse region of Portugal just north of Lisbon, the Silver Coast’s stunning beaches and historic towns make it one of the country’s most important tourist destinations. Sunny, picturesque, and with friendly inhabitants who are welcoming to visitors, the little fishing village of Nazaré is perhaps the most popular of all.
The A8 freeway makes for a fast connection with Lisbon Airport and the future airport just outside the capital city where low-cost carriers will bring even more tourists to Portugal. Nazaré provides an ideal location for visits to the countryside with its pristine wilderness.
Breathtaking views and fine cultural and historical treasures. Many of its monuments – such as Óbidos and Alcobaça – are listed UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Nazaré, a perfect match
Nazaré – population of 15,000 – also has much to offer. The long, moon-shaped beach with its colourful beach shades is one of the attractions, as is the boulevard dotted with its bars and fine restaurants serving excellent seafood, and the brightly coloured fishing boats and traditional village festivals.
You can also take the funicular to Sitio, a 318 metre high promontory that rises steeply from the sea and provides one of the most spectacular views of the Portuguese coast. When there, don’t forget to visit the square and the lighthouse in the old fort. Nazaré Canyon properties are well positioned to cater not only to surfers, but for many kinds of tourists coming to experience all the area has to offer.
