We have an eye for identifying young markets with high-growth potential; we can see that this is the right moment for Nazaré. We have conducted our own research in tandem with an external study into both the country and the location to understand the inherent value of Nazaré Canyon. We have found that seasonality is not an issue for Nazaré Canyon – it is a year-round hotspot for our target groups. As such, the growth potential for the area is high.
The Nazaré coast attracts families on vacation
Specific online search behaviour for tourists looking at Portugal shows the following top 3 brand tags: ‘beaches’, ‘local gastronomy’ and ‘surfing’. The sun and the sea of the Nazaré coast attracts a lot of families on vacation – an important target group – to the area, while the beautiful landscape and range of natural attractions are also a major draw for many other audiences all year round. When it comes to surfing, the plentiful beaches – with a huge variety of wave heights - ensure an excellent experience for surfers of all abilities, and have earned Nazaré a global reputation as a surfing destination.
Visitors from all over the world
Many of our target audiences come here for the surf, and ever since Garrett McNamara set a record in 2011 by riding a 30-metre high wave, Nazaré has attracted more and more surfers from all over the world. In 2016 Nazaré became the only place in Europe – Europe has 30 million active surf fans – licensed to host one of the Big Wave Tour events of the World Surf League (WSL). These events, now including the one in Nazaré, attract visitors from all over the world, whether they surf themselves or just come to watch.
